.: Sacred Heart University Defeats Bridgeport 72-36

Bridgeport, CT , February 5th, 2006

The UB's women's swim team made quite a splash in their last home meet of the season against cross-town rivals Sacred Heart University posting many outstanding individual performances, however in the end the Pioneers edged out the Purple Knights for the overall victory, 72-36, at the Wheeler Recreation Center on the campus of the University of Bridgeport. UB sophomore Alexandra Byczynska (Warsaw, Poland) captured the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:04.75, earning her the 6th fastest time in the country, qualifying her for the NCAA National Championships in March.

The Purple Knights also saw exceptional individual performance from sophomore Raluca Duma (Cluji Napoca, Romania) who placed first in the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly posting times of 2:23.41 and 57.73 respectively. Duma currently ranks 10th in the country in both the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly.

Up next for the UB women's swim team is the Metropolitan Conference Championships Feb. 17th at Rutgers University. The Purple Knights will be seeking more national qualifying times in addition to the success they have already earned.
