Meet Results

The University of Texas men’s swimming and diving team won 13 out of 16 events, including the opening four races to win the 2006 edition of the State Farm Lone Star Showdown, 165-129, Friday evening in College Station at the Texas A&M Natatorium.

Texas (4-3) opened the meet taking first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of NCAA consideration qualifying time of 1:29.62.

Matthew McGinnis took first-place in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:23.88, followed closely by Sean Patton in second place with a time of 9:28.91.

Michael Klueh kept the momentum rolling by leading a sweep of the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle. Klueh took first with a NCAA consideration qualifying time of 1:37.38, followed by Caleb McDermott in second with a consideration time of 1:38.01 and Ryan Verlatti took third with a time of 1:40.20.

Texas A&M’s Andrew Sullivant gave the Aggies their first win, posting a 20.12 in the 50-yard free. UT's Garrett Weber-Gale finished second in 20.37.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Thomas Sacco got Texas back to their winning ways, taking first with a time of 49.66 then Christian Schurr took top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke with an NCAA consideration qualifying time of 55.04.

Daniel Rohleder and David Donaldson finished off the first grouping of swimming events before the 1-meter diving competition with a first (1:49.60) and second place (1:50.39), respectively, in the 200-yard butterfly. It was Rohleder’s fastest time of the season in the event. Bailey Gao took the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 328.58, his best dual competition total of the year on the low board. McGinnis re-opened the swimming events by taking his second top finish of the night in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in an NCAA consideration qualifying time of 44.46. McDermott and Klueh then took the top two spots in the 200-yard backstroke with times of 1:46.06 and 1:48.63, respectively. McDermott’s first place time was under NCAA consideration qualifying standards. Schurr won his second event of the night with a first place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:59.91.

Weber-Gale followed suit in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:31.26 and Rohleder had the top finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.88, just .32 off his season best time of 48.56 swam at the Texas Invitational.

The Longhorns will return to action next when they head to Dallas, Texas on Saturday Feb. 4 to dual Southern Methodist to close out the regular season before heading to Columbia, Missouri and the Big 12 Championships hosted by Missouri on Feb 22-25.
