.: St. Bonaventure Tops Niagara

LEWISTON, N.Y. , February 2nd, 2006

The St. Bonaventure women’s swimming and diving team captured first in all but one event in a 180-54 win against the Purple Eagles, while the men concluded its regular season with a 179-60 victory over Niagara at Kiernan Recreational Center on Monteagle Ridge.

Double winners for the women included sophomore Taryn Ahern, classmate Anneli Johnson and senior Stephanie Karl. Ahern nabbed gold in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:27.55) and 200 backstroke (2:13.52); Karl took first in the 200 freestyle (2:00.54) and 100 freestyle (55.95); and Johnson touched first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.65) and the 200 backstroke (2:21.27).

Freshman Kate Cherry placed first in the 500 free in 5:25.31, and classmate Allison Whalen took first in the 200 butterfly in 2:12.13.

The women also took gold in the 200 medley relay in 1:50.57 and the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.00.

On the boards, Keri Vito claimed first in one-meter diving with a score of 253.35 and in the three-meter diving with a score of 268.43.

For the men, the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week junior Chris Ekimoff claimed two wins for St. Bonaventure. Ekimoff took the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-free in times of 1:44 12 and 4:42.82 respectively.

Sophomore Scott Jordan was the other multiple winner for the Bonnies. Jordan took gold in the 200-individual medley in a time of 1:59.88. He also placed first in the 200-breast touching in at 2:21.27.

Other winners for Bona were freshmen Patrick Henahan and Chris Happel, senior Ryan Moore, and junior Ceyhen Guler. Henahan placed first in 1,000-free touching in at 10:02.26. Moore claimed the 50-free in 22.01. In a time of 2:02.36 Happel took the 200-fly while, Guler nabbed first in the 200-back in 1:57.84.

St. Bonaventure also claimed first in the 200-free and 200-individual medley relays.

On the boards, junior Matt Dickinson captured both the one-meter and three-meter board. Dickinson scored 246.00 on the three-meter and 248.48 on the one-meter.
