.: Marist Men, Rider Women Lead after Day 2 of MAAC Championships

The Marist College men’s and Rider University women’s swimming and diving teams lead the league after two days of competition at the 2006 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the Fitness and Aquatic Center at Loyola College.

The Marist men took the lead with 587 points, while Rider has registered 486 points for second place. Loyola College is in third with 358 points, followed by Iona College (254), Niagara University (223), Saint Peter’s College (199), Fairfield University (195) and Canisius College (154).

On the women’s side, Rider has tallied 547 points, 28 points ahead of second-place Marist (531). Loyola is in third with 440 points, followed by Fairfield (268), Iona (236), Niagara (189), Siena College (128), Manhattan College (125), Canisius (98) and Saint Peter’s (60).

Eight MAAC records were broken this evening. The Marist women’s 800-yard relay team with Jamie Falco, Lauren Malski, Sandra Bujalski and Kim Koehler set a new time in the event (1:46.56). Rider’s Priscilla Modrov set new records in the 400-yard individual medley (4:27.84) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.69), while her brother, Brandon Modrov, touched the wall first in the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 3:59.75. The Broncs’ Lauren Urbanski reset her own record in the 100-yard butterfly (57.12), while Marist’s Malski completed the same feat in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.70) as did the Red Foxes’ Falco in the 100-yard backstroke (58.55). Rider’s 800-yard medley relay team of Courtney Clark, Urbanski, Stephanie Consentino and Modrov set a new MAAC record with a time of 7:44.08.
