.: Heaton, Wylam Earn MAC Weekly Honor

February 1st, 2006

Chris Heaton of Miami and Emily Wylam of Ohio both collected MAC weekly honors.

Heaton set a new Miami three-meter diving standard in the RedHawks' dual meet setback versus Eastern Michigan, posting a score of 342.60. Heaton's score bested the previous Miami three-meter diving record set in 2001 by four-time MAC Champion Dylan Nichols, and shattered the previous top MAC score in the event this season, set by teammate Zach Niehaus on Jan. 13, 2006. Nichols followed up the performance with a win on the one-meter board in Miami's 115-87 win over MAC foe Ohio with a tally of 310.20, narrowly missing the 2005-06 league best score in the event that he set on Jan. 20 versus Wright State. Heaton is the second Miami diver to claim the weekly MAC Swimmer Of The Week honor this season.

Wylam won three individual events and was a part of two first-place relays in two dual meets for the Bobcats last week. In a setback to Miami, she finished first in both the 100-yard backstroke (57.87 seconds) and 200 backstroke (2:03.83), and swam the opening leg of the victorious 400-yard Medley Relay, posting a backstroke split of 57.47 seconds. All three times in the events were MAC season-best marks, and Wylam personal bests. In last Tuesday's win over Marshall, Wylam captured first-place tallies in two events, winning the 100-yard backstroke in 58.71 seconds, and posting a opening leg split of 19.33 seconds in the victorious 200-yard Medley Relay. Wylam also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly race. Wylam was also named Women's Swimmer Of The Week on Jan. 17.
