The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept host Bucknell Sunday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The Retriever men (5-1) defeated the Bison, 137-75, while the women (7-1) won by a score of 129-106.
Sophomore Evan Roseberry led the way for the men with three victories. He took first in the 500-free (4:40.08), 1,000-free (9:31.66) and 200-fly (1:54.99), leading a Retriever sweep of the top three spots in the 500 and the top four in the 1,000. Roseberry's time in the 1,000-free broke the Kinney Natatorium pool record.
Sophomore Justin Bronson and senior Jeff Salgado each won two events for the Retriever men, as Bronson took the 100-free (47.22) and 200-free (1:44.81) and Salgado swept the relays with scores of 246.75 on the 1-meter board and 280.65 in the 3-meter competition. Senior Tim Conway (21.26) led a UMBC sweep in the 50-free, and junior Adam Eiben (1:58.15) and freshman Rasmus Kutt (1:51.76) did the same in the 200-IM and 200-back, respectively. Junior Scott Auchter also won the 200-breast (2:10.04).
In addition, the UMBC men swept the relays, with Kutt, Auchter, freshman Zach Vonder Haar and senior Juan Ortiz taking the 400-medley relay (3:30.07), and Vonder Haar, Eiben, sophomore Milos Djukic and freshman John Seniz winning the 400-free relay (3:13.45).
On the women’s side, junior Meghan Sackett won three individual events – the 200-free (1:55.27), the 500-free (5:05.51) and the 200-fly (2:09.98). Senior Agnes Stanislawska led a retriever sweep in the 200-IM (2:08.30) and also won the 200-back (2:08.10). Sophomore Daniele Surkovich won the 50-free (24.10) and 100-free (52.16), and senior Ashley Houghton swept the diving events with scores of 267.23 on the 1-meter board and 252.00 on the 3-meter board.
Junior Rachel Lesslie also won the 1,000-free (10:45.63), and sophomore Tina Cantwell took the 200-breast (2:21.65).
In addition, the UMBC women swept the relays, with Stanislawska, Cantwell, freshman Kate Chialastri and junior Lindsey Engler taking the 400-medley relay (3:58.79), and freshman Lindsay Sherman, Surkovich, Engler and sophomore Joy Wilde winning the 400-free relay (3:37.42).
The Retrievers have a five-week break from dual meet competition before returning to the pool on Jan. 10, 2007, at Howard University.
