.: UCSD Grad Killed in Hit and Run

San Luis Obisbo, CA , December 28th, 2006

University of California-San Diego alum Paul Wikholm was killed early Wednesday morning in a hit-and-run incident.  The pre-med student was a butterfly and breaststroke specialist for the Tritons and earned Honorable Mention Academic All-American honors in 2005.

Wikholm was discovered eary Wednesday morning after being run over by James Mase.  Mase then called the California Highway Patrol.  CHP investigators determined that Wikholm had been struck by another vehicle prior to being run over by Mase, who is not considered a suspect.  It is not known why Wikholm was in the road in the first place and authorities expected toxicology reports to be returned in two weeks.

Funeral arrangements were still pending for the young man who was described as a humorous, hard-working, and cooperative by his coaches.

Anyone with information that might be useful is asked to contact the CHP office in San Luis Obispo at 805-549-3092.
