Northwestern Sweeps Hawaii

Both the University of Hawai`i men and women's swimming and diving squads fell for the first time this season to No. 8 Northwestern in a non-conference dual meet at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.

The Wildcat men defeated the Rainbow Warriors, 139-80, while the women dropped a 133-93 decision. The meet began yesterday and then concluded today with diving.

The Northwestern men sweep all 24 of the swimming events. However, the UH men divers captured both events today.

Magnus Frick, who is joining the team after the fall semester, claimed the 1-meter (394.85) and the 3-meter (380.90) springboard events. Both scores are new UH records and NCAA Zone E qualifying marks. Junior Mats Wiktorsson finished in second in both events with scores of 319.80 and 378.85, respectively.

On the women's side, Nicole Mackey won both of her individual events as see claimed first place in the 200 IM (2:04.57) and followed it up with a first-place finish in the 100 Back (56.09).

Claudia Barsi continues to dominate her distance free events. She captured first place in the 1000 Free (10:01.02), but took fourth place in the 500 Free (5:01.42).

Diver Megan Farrow garnered first place today in both diving events. She posted a score of 279.40 to win the 1-meter then posted a 324.65 to pick up the 3-meter springboard event.

The men and women's teams fall to 8-1 on the season in dual meets.
