With 295 points apiece, the SMU men and women's swimming and diving teams combined for numerous victories this weekend at the Kerr McGee Elite Meet including a final first-place team standing for both squads. SMU was the only collegiate program entered as a team though the meet was littered with postgrads competiting for cash. Highlighting field were swimmers from Kentucky (Rachel Komisarz), Cal-Berekely and Golden West JC (Micha Burden), Maryland (Liz Lavell), Louisiana State (Heather Brand), Wisconsin (Dale Rogers and Adam Mania), UW-Milwaukee (Josh Basehart), Georgia (Robert Margalis and Atiba Wade), Southern Cal (Gabe Woodward), Auburn (Doug Van Wie), Stanford (Jayme Cramer), Indiana (Serigy Fesenko and Kevin Swander), Harvard (David Cromwell), Virginia (Doug Crippen) and Nebraska (Val Kalmikovs). Not suprisingly, there was also a large contingent of grads from Texas schools including SMU (Camilo Becerra), Texas Christian (Teylor Arboleda), Texas A&M (Scott Newmann, and Danielle Townsend), and UT-Austin (Neil Walker, Brendan Hansen, and Tanica Jamison).
Starting the night off in the 1650 free, Katie Roberts touched the wall in third place with a time of 16:39.09 while Federica Felloni followed closely in fifth place, clocking in at 17:17.93.
On the men's side, Chris Ginder held on to a 14th place finish with a time of 16:17.89. In the men's 200 back, Ian Clark swam a time of 1:48.76 for sixth place while Colton Ingraham swam a time of 1:55.56 for 17th place.
Leane Darling captured the 100 free title with a time of 50.22 as Jennifer Blackman and Celina Lemmen notched fifth and sixth, respectively. Blackman posted a time of 50.88 while Lemmen touched in at 52.03. Tiffany Sammis swam a time of 54.02 for 23rd.
Shane Milu posted the seventh best time in the men's 100 free with a time of 46.03. Travis Callaghan clocked in at 47.26 for 17th place while Grega Plevelj touched in at 19th with a time of 48.31. Jani Brackett posted a time of 48.99 while Jerr Merritt clocked his at 49.35. In the women's 200 fly, Jaime Williamson placed 18th with a time of 2:10.73.
For the men, Justin Smith swam a time of 1:50.65 to take fourth place and Nate Clark finished eighth with a time of 1:54.07. Brett Denham touched the wall for 18th place with a time of 1:56.71 and Josh Cohen followed at 24th with a time of 2:00.71. In the women's 100 IM, Devon Callaghan touched the wall in fifth place with a time of 59.07.
For the men, I. Clark placed fifth with a time of 51.64 and Justin Smith finished seventh with a time of 51.97. Maverick Smalley came in at 11th place with a time of 52.77. Mitchell Johnson placed 14th with a time of 55.32 and Daniel Veale followed in 15th place with a time of 55.52. Matt Hock notched 24th place with a time of 1:00.02 and Merritt posted a time of 56.19.
