Mars Hill, NC , December 14th, 2006

Mars Hill College will add men's swimming as a NCAA collegiate varsity sport for the 2007-08 academic year, institution officials announced today. The addition will bring the Lions' total offered varsity sports to 19.

Teddy Guyer, the current women's coach, has been named as the head men's swimming coach as well. Guyer is starting his second season as the Lions’ head women’s swimming coach. In his first season at Mars Hill College the team finished with an 8-1 dual meet record, bringing his career mark to 124 wins and only 37 losses. Guyer brings over 25 years of experience in aquatics and 14 years at the college level.

Mars Hill Athletic Director David Riggins stated, "We are pleased to add men's swimming to our roster of sports offered. It is an especially noteworthy addition since men's swimming is such an established sport in Western North Carolina."

Coach Guyer will begin recruiting student-athletes for the squad immediately. Any questions or interest in the team can be directed to coach Guyer by email or phone.
