Cabrillo College sophomore Tommy Zaferes established a new national junior college record in the 200 butterfly at the Coast Conference Swimming Championships.

With a time of 1:46.41, Zaferes broke Albert Sutanto's 1:46.55. The Golden West flyer set the mark in 1998.

"It was the Tommy show," said Cabrillo coach Josh Thomas. "It was awesome. When he swam, people were walking around with their mouths open."

Zaferes set conference records this week.

"He just keeps getting beter. That's the weird part," Thomas said. "Most people level off. He could still be developing physically."
