.: Transylvania's Ebel Promoted to AD

Transylvania, KY , April 26th, 2006

Jack Ebel, Transylvania's long-time swimming and diving coach, has been named director of athletics at the school, effective immediately, President Charles L. Shearer announced.

Ebel, a 1977 graduate of Transylvania , has been associated with the university as a student, teacher, administrator, and coach for three decades. The native of Oak Ridge , Tenn. , headed the first Transylvania swim team in 1978 and is the only coach in the program's history. He has also coached men's and women's tennis and began the school’s highly successful summer All-Sports Program. "I'm delighted to have Jack accept the position as our athletics director," said Shearer. "He obviously has a great deal of experience at Transylvania. He has influenced the lives of a number of student athletes over the years and that will allow him to bring a unique and multi-faceted approach to the position. "Plus, he is a long-time and valued member of the Transy family. He will bring that great prospective in his new role as well. Jack has been in a leadership role here for many years and has a great vision for the future of athletics at Transylvania."

Ebel, who was inducted into the Pioneer Athletic Hall of Fame last spring, was named NAIA national swim Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2000 and Bluegrass Mountain Conference Coach of the Year in 2003. He coached 74 national All-American swimmers.
