Meet Results

The UIC men's swimming and diving team picked up a rare dual meet draw on Saturday as the Flames battled host UW-Milwaukee to an exciting 150-150 tie at the Klotsche Center.

The Flames used a dominating four-second victory in the day's final event, the 400 freestyle relay, to ensure the draw.

Highlighting the day's stellar performance was a two-win showing by senior Stefan Staev. Staev captured a 100 breaststroke win in 1:00.22 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:12.10.

Junior Blake Booher remained undefeated in the 50 free this season, taking the title in 21.09. Booher's victory highlighted a 1-2-3 showing in the event as he was followed by Athanasios Lamprou (22.02) and LeRoy Stevens (22.14).

Stevens looked sharp in the 100 free as well, winning the event in 47.50. Booher followed in second at 47.93.

Mark Pappalardo continued his winning ways on the boards as the junior diver captured the one-meter event with a score of 275.10. Pappalardo also placed third in the three-meter event (235.20).

Ryan Fitzer led the Flames in the three-meter event with a second-place score of 266.33.

Adan Jimenez had a stellar day, leading off the winning 400 medley relay while picking up the victory in the 100 backstroke with a 53.79.

The Flames were victorious in both the 400 medley relay (3:33.06) and the 400 free relay (3:11.23).

UIC Head Coach Paul Moniak was pleased with the electric effort his team showed on the road and in the face of continual adversity on the health front so far this season.

"Pretty exciting," said Moniak of the meet's pace and finish. "It's an unfortunate thing to tie since we performed well enough to win on the men's side."

"Overall I'm very pleased with how the team raced this weekend, given all the injuries and illnesses we've been dealing with," Moniak said. "The coaching staff is very proud of how we've been stepping up under adverse conditions. We're very happy with the performance today and we know this will give us a great chance to succeed at the Horizon League Championships."

UIC returns home to the UIC Natatorium to host league rival Butler this Saturday, November 12 at 5:00 p.m.
