Freshman Lisa Marchi (Scottsdale, Ariz.) had an incredible performance today, setting records in two individual events and winning a third as Colgate’s women’s swimming and diving team defeated Lehigh, 209-90, and upset Navy, 166-134, here at Lineberry Natatorium. Navy recorded a 220-80 victory over Lehigh. The Midshipmen are now 4-2 on the season with the two decisions. Meanwhile, the Colgate men fell to Lehigh 165-135.

Marchi set freshman, pool, and varsity records today in the 1000-yard freestyle, winning with a time of 10:30.84. Competing in the next event, Marchi set a Colgate freshman record in the 200-yard freestyle; she posted a winning time of 1:53.38. She also won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:05.77 and anchored the Raiders’ winning 400-yard freestyle relay team.

“Lisa was unreal today," head coach Stephen Jungbluth said. "Our women swam great today. In the absence of some key individuals, they pulled together to rise to victory over the women of the Naval Academy, who were picked in the preseason as the number one ranked team in the Patriot League. Our women proved that they have the heart to compete with anybody in this league.”

"We are thrilled with how we swam," said Navy head swimming coach John Morrison. "The times were much better than last week and are closer to our times before we had some illnesses and injuries on the team. We had a number of strong performances to be pleased about today."

Jennie Spencer (Fr., Smithburg, W. Va.) had another strong day in the pool for the Midshipmen, winning both backstroke events and placing second in the 50 free. Spencer recorded a time of 58.81 in winning the 100 back and a 2:06.81 in winning the 200 back, while her time of 24.87 placed her second by four-tenths of a second to Colgate's Chrissy Zaika in the 50 free. Her 200 backstroke time is the fourth-fastest clocking by a Mid in Navy history and is less than one second behind the school standard of 2:05.96 set by Stacey Haynes in 1996.

Navy's lone additional double event winner on the day was Katie Griffin (So., Ellicott City, Md.) who swept the two diving boards. Griffin, who improved her combined record on the year to 6-2 with the pair of wins, won the one meter with a score of 241.60 and the three meter with 299.15 points. She narrowly edged Colgate's Emily McAuliff by 7.6 points on the one meter, then outdistanced Colgate's Jen Rodgers by 44 points on the three meter.

Diana Dietrich (So., New Kensington, Pa.) also picked up a victory for Navy on the day, leading a 1-2-3 finish for the Mids in the 200 fly. Dietrich won the event in a time of 2:11.47, with teammates Clare McKenna (Fr., Garden City, N.J.) placing second (2:13.61) and Cameron Wallace (Fr., Fredericksburg, Va.) placing third (2:13.71).

Rounding out the event winners for Navy was Kelly Zahalka (Fr., Richmond, Va.), who recorded a 4:32.62 to win the 400 individual medley by over five seconds. Her clocking in the event is the fifth-fastest in Navy history. In addition to her victory, Zahalka also placed second in the 500 free (5:12.61) and 1000 free (10:27.01).

Several other Colgate women had impressive performances that helped defeat Lehigh and Navy. Freshman Emily Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y.) set a freshman and varsity record in the 100-yard breaststroke with her time of 1:04.77. She outpaced defending league champion Aubra Thomas of Navy in winning that event and the 200-yard breaststroke. Murphy also participated in the winning 200-yard medley relay and finished second in the 400IM.

Sophomore Colby Seamans (Naperville, Ill.) and junior Keriann Fitzsimons (Red Hook, N.Y.) continued their improved performances. Seamans, one week removed from trimming six seconds off her personal record in the 400IM, lowered that mark by another three seconds with a time of 4:40.31. Fitzsimmons recorded her fastest times of the season in the 100 free, 200 free, and 200 fly. She also contributed in the victorious 400-yard freestyle relay.

Another strong performer was senior Chrissy Zaika (Syracuse, N.Y.), who won the 50-yard freestyle and recorded the seventh-fastest time in school history with her 58.69 in the 50-yard fly.

Leading the way in the 3-meter diving event was Navy sophomore Katie Griffin, with 299.15 points, followed closely by Colgate’s Jen Rodgers (Glenmont, N.Y.) and Emily McAuliff (Springfield, Ill.), with scores of 256.10 and 253.90, respectively. These three were the top three performers in the one-meter diving, too; Griffin won with a 241.60, McAuliff was second with a 234.00, and Rodgers finished third with a score of 213.65.

"All in all, this meet was the single greatest focused effort that our men’s team has produced in my time at Colgate," head coach Stephen Jungbluth said. "I am so proud of the guys today. Every team member stepped up today. If our team can continue to bring this intensity to our competitions, we will be a much tougher team come February."

In the opening event of the meet, Colgate's men's 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Zach Whitman (Pittsford, N.Y.), juniors Greg Dunlavey (Oak Park, Ill.) and Zach Grobengieser (Spencerport, N.Y.), and senior Marc Falkner (Basking Ridge, N.Y.) won in a time of 1:35.82. This relay effort represents the fifth-fastest in Colgate history. The 400-yard freestyle relay team, too, enjoyed a first-place finish with its 3:15.01 time.

Falkner continued his success by winning the 200-yard breaststroke, in 2:09.56, and the 400IM, in 4:14.36. He finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.98.

Diver Stephen Haskin finished second in both of his events. He scored 202.30 in the one-meter dive and 240.45 in the three-meter.

Whitman won the 100 butterfly in 52.56. Dunlavey also captured top honors in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:57.47.

Colgate returns to action on Nov. 12, at 4 p.m., when they visit the Wildcats of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H. The Midshipmen will return to the pool Nov. 12 when Navy competes against Bucknell and Lafayette in Lewisburg, Pa.
