Meet Results

The University of Texas women's swimming and diving team fell Friday night, 162-138, to Southern Methodist in Dallas at the A.R. Barr Aquatic Center. Texas was led by senior Elizabeth Wycliffe's three win performance and sweeps of both diving events.

With the loss, Texas falls to 1-2-1 on the year while SMU improves to 1-1 overall on the season.

Wycliffe took firsts in the 100 yard backstroke (55.71), the 200 yard backstroke (1:59.18) and the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:05.19.

UT divers freshman Kara-Jayne Salamone, freshman and October Big 12 Diver of the Month Kathryn Kelly and sophomore Jessica Livingston all combined to sweep both diving events. Salamone took first in both the one and 3-meters dives with scores of 267.52 and 297.67, respectively. Kelly took second in both with scores of 262.05 at 1-meter and 292.04 at 3-meter, while Livingston took third in both with scores of 260.92 and 282.97, respectively.

Freshman Alexandra Spann took first in the 200 yard breaststroke followed by junior Leah Avilla who took second in the same race with a time of 2:19.40. Junior Katie Robinson added to the fight with a first place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 55.87.

SMU took an early lead over Texas by winning six of the first seven events before a brief break for the 1-meter diving competition. Overall, the Mustangs won nine of 16 events to take the dual from the Longhorns.

Texas will return to action on Dec. 1-3 when they host the 2005 Texas Invitational in the Texas Swimming and Diving Center.
