.: Oakland Sweeps Mid-Con Weekly Laurels

November 2nd, 2005

Oakland's Ryan Kish and Centenary's Taryne Cantillo were selected as the Mid-Con Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week after turning in solid performances last week.

Kish is the Men’s Athlete of the Week after sweeping the diving events at the Golden Grizzly Quadrangular and qualifying for the 3-meter NCAA Zone Diving Competition. The sophomore opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 1-meter dive with 257.90 points. Kish also stood atop the podium in the 3-meter event with 320.55 points. His mark qualifies him for the NCAA Zone Diving Competition and was just 2.32 tallies shy of the OU Aquatics Center record.

Cantillo takes home Women’s Athlete of the Week after breaking three school records at the Hendrix Classic and Hendrix Relays last weekend. The freshman collected seven first place finishes at the meet, including a pair in individual competition. Cantillo set the Centenary mark in the 200 freetyle with a time of 2:00.21, which was more than four seconds quicker than the runner-up. She also broke the school record in the 200 butterfly (2:10.88) and helped set the school mark in the 300 butterfly relay (3:13.44).
