Meet Results

With a split squad Friday night, the Kenyon College Lords swim team raced past the John Carroll Blue Streaks, but couldn’t surpass the Division I nationally-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. Kenyon defeated John Carroll 121-101, and fell to Ohio State 105-94. On the women's side, the Buckeyes dropped the Ladies 116-89 while the Kenyon women topped John Carroll 145-86.

Against Ohio State, the Lords had the chance to compete in the Buckeyes’ brand new McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion. The environment proved fruitful for several Kenyon swimmers, including senior Andrejs Duda (Jelgava, Latvia/Jelgava No. 4) and junior Davis Zarins (Riga, Latvia/Riga Specialized School), who both won individual events and cleared NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standards. Duda did so in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:53.02, while Zarins duplicated the feat in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:05.46.

Kenyon also received individual wins from Michael Northcutt (Charleston, WV/George Washington) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:40.81) and from Ryan Volsen (Spokane, WA/Mead) in the 500-yard freestyle (4:45.12).

Back in Cleveland, the other half of the Kenyon team was posting solid times against the Blue Streaks. In all, the Lords were victories in eight of 13 events on their way to improving their dual meet record to 3-2 this season.

Freshman Will Misslin (Redding, CA/Bishop Quinn) and senior Jim Bell (New Albany, IN/St. Xavier) were Kenyon’s standouts against John Carroll. Misslin dominated the distance events with wins in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:20.60) and in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.99). Bell followed up by talking first place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.66) and leading the 200-yard medley relay team to victory in a time of 1:44.86.
