.: Northeastern Women 144.5, Vermont 97.5

BURLINGTON, Vt. , November 19th, 2005

The University of Vermont swimming and diving team fell to visiting Northeastern, 144.5-97.5, on Saturday afternoon. Freshmen Lauren Honrath and Rachel Kent led the Catamounts, who fall to 4-3 with the loss, with two wins each.

In the second event of the meet, Honrath picked up her first victory of the day by winning the 1,000 freestyle in a time of 10:53.89, while junior Ali Fowler placed second in the event (11:02.17). Honrath would also take first place in the 500 freestyle (5:19.65).

Kent led the Catamounts to a 1-2 finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.17, as senior Helen Dembinski came in right behind her in second place. Kent would also go on to take the 100 freestyle in a time of 55.45.

Also winning for Vermont was freshman Lauren Anderson in the 200 freestyle (2:02.02). The Catamounts also faired well in the 200 IM, with sophomore Nicole Underhill placing second, followed by Fowler in third and sophomore Erin Mealy in fourth.

"Today was an outstanding meet for us, as we had an early lead going into the first diving event," said head coach Gerry Cournoyer. "The team came out and swam their hearts out. Rachel Kent was impressive in her two wins, Lauren Honrath came from behind and Lauren Anderson really stepped up for an unexpected win. We are in a good place right now and are looking forward for another strong meet tomorrow versus another tough team."
