Meet Results

The University of Minnesota fell, 163-135 to Notre Dame, today, in South Bend, Ind. at the Rolf's Aquatic Center. Yuen Kobayashi led the Gophers in the event, winning two individual events and helping the Gophers to a winning relay.

Kobayashi won the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 4:52.52. Her time provisionally qualified her for the NCAA championships in March. She won the event in over two seconds over teammate Christine Jennings, who finished second in the event. Jennings clocked a time of 4:54.44. Kobayashi also won the 1,000 free in a time of 9:52.35. Notre Dame's Claire Hutchinson finished second in the event in 10:02.67. Kobayashi also swam the first leg in the 400 free relay to give the Gophers a win. Kobayashi along with Sarah Perrott, Meredith McCarthy and Jennings clocked a time of 3:28.90 for the win. The Gophers defeated the Fighting Irish relay by nearly three seconds, who finished in 3:31.23.

Also garnering an individual win was Katie Wind in the 200-yard backstroke. Wind touched the wall in a time of 2:01.37. Jenny Shaughnessy finished fourth overall in 2:06.96, followed by Jaclyn Gazvoda in 2:11.68. Wind also finished second in the 100 back, clocking a time of 57.39, but ND's Caroline Johnson won the event in 56.88. Jennifer Hasling finished third in the 100 back with a time of 58.58. Wind, along with Erika Bjorklund, Krista Kezbers and Stacy Busack finished second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.98.

Kate Hardt finished the meet with two second-place finishes in the 200 free and the 200 individual medley. Hardt finished the 200 free in 1:51.66, while setting a time of 2:07.81 in the 200 IM. Shaughnessy finished third in the 200 IM in 2:08.18, respectively. Danielle Ridder touched the wall in 2:06.41 in the 200 fly event, but Notre Dame's Casey Wagner won the event in 2:05.87. Stacy Busack finished second overall in the 50 free with a time of 24.03, while Hasling finished third in 24.20. Perrott came in fourth in the event with a time of 24.25 and finished second overall in the 100 free in 52.17.

Jamie Howard and Mary Patrek led the breaststrokers with third place finishes overall. Howard finished third in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:06.16, while Patrek finished third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:23.26. Bridget McCoy finished fourth in the 100 (1:06.45) and sixth in the 200 (2:26.00).

In the diving well, Erica Schiffler won the 3-meter event with a score of 292.28. She also finished second in 1-meter diving with a score of 254.63. Brianna Hubbard placed third in both the 1-meter (248.47) and 3-meter event (267.30).
