.: North Dakota Sweeps UW-Milwaukee, Northern Iowa

Milwaukee, WI , November 12th, 2005

The University of North Dakota swimming and diving team defeated host University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and Northern Iowa today at Klitsche Pool in Milwaukee, Wis.

Head coach Mavieal Sampaio described a team that was thrilled with the results of today's contest, "I put UW-Milwaukee on the schedule because I know that they are a great program that provides us with a great challenge in the pool. They have great athletes and we were able to swim very well today and make many NCAA cuts. We are very happy that our hard work is paying off during competiton."

"A great program and a great challenge? The North Dakota men defeated UW-Milwaukee 171-72. Recieving "A"cut times in 400 medley relay by Jason Mraule (Sr.), Pedro Pereira (So.) Jared Peters(Sr.)and Per Westergren (Fr.).

Another "A"cut time was achieved in the 400 freestyle relay by Jordan O'Brien(Sr.), Mraule, Jeff Schneider (Sr.) and Pereira.

"North Dakota is one of the better NCAA Division II teams in the country," Milwaukee head coach Dave Clark said. "We are also not completely healthy, so it made for a tougher challenge. We stepped up our training again this week and the men have not had a chance to adapt," Clark said. "We are a little nicked up and we just can't afford that."

First place finishes for the men: Dan Zabler (Fr.)in 1000 freestyle, Per Westergren (Fr.)got a 100 ("B"cut) and 200 freestyle, Anthony Buhr (Fr.) in 50 freestyle, Pedro Periera (So.) in 200 individual medley (NCAA-cut), Dan Zabler (Fr.) in 200 butterfly ("B"cut), Jonathan Musselwhite (Fr.) in 200 backstroke, Jeff Schneider (Sr.) 500 freestyle and Ben Swanholm (Sr.) in 200 backstroke. The North Dakota women downed both Northern Iowa (191-45) and UW-Milwaukee 124-116. The Fighting Sioux 400 medley relay team made up of Jenny Bachmeier (Jr.), Sara Wollenhaupt (Jr.), Beth Kizcula (Fr.) and Lauren Mickelson (Sr.) finished first receiving an "A"cut time.

During the afternoon, history was made when the 400 freestyle relay by Natalia Busso (Fr.), Madonna Dorsher (Jr.), Kizcula and Bachmeier broke the pool record thus gaining "A"cut status.

First place finishes for the women: Busso in 1000 freestyle and 100 freestyle "B"cut, Mickelson in 200 & 500 freestyle, Lindsey in NCAA-cut 3-meter diving and Wollenhaupt made a "B"cut in the 200 backstroke.
