The Florida State men?s (No. 15) and women?s (No. 16) swimming and diving teams remained unbeaten on the season after their meet in Savannah, Ga. on Friday, November 11, 2005. The men improved their record to 5-0 as they defeated Savannah College 102-80 while the women upped their recorded to 7-0 after beating Savannah College 121-68 and New Orleans 127-67.

?We are going at Clemson tomorrow,? said head coach Neil Harper. ?We needed to try and be sharp tonight. We couldn?t start off the weekend beginning sluggish or taking anything lightly. I think the team responded pretty well. They took good care of themselves and are prepared to do well tomorrow.?

The men?s team got off to a fast start as sophomore Danny Keeling (Westminster, Colo. / Standley Lake) won the 1000 free with a time of 9:58.89. Junior Steve Roof (Canton, Ohio / Central Catholic) would then pick up another win for the men in the 200 fee with his time of 1:44.51. Freshman Jimmy Holway (Gulf Breeze, Fla. / Gulf Breeze) took first place in the 50 free in 21.86. Sophomore Ed Denton (Maidenhead, England / Millifield School) won the 200 IM in 1:55.27. Senior Stephan Connor (Burr, Ill. / Toledo) would continue the men?s winning ways as he took first place in the 100 fly (50.94). Sophomore Carl Marais (Pretoria, South Africa / Wyoming) won the 100 free (46.85) while classmate Ian Powell (Guernsey, Channel Islands / Millfield School) took first place in the 100 back (51.50).

The men swam their last two individual events as exhibitions with junior Michael Rice (North Miami, Fla. / Florida) taking the fastest time in the 500 free (4:48.19) and classmate Billy Jamerson (Savannah, Ga. / Sandy Creek) claiming the fastest time in the 100 breast (57.03).

Sophomore Elise Hatfield (Merritt Island, Fla. / Merritt Island) helped the women?s team take an early lead as she won the 1000 free with a time of 10:39.89. Freshman Caroline Robertson (Ocala, Fla. / Forest) then won the 200 free in 1:54.09. Robertson would later win the 500 free (5:04.11) and would be the only Seminoles to win multiple events in the meet.

?Caroline (Robertson) did really well and I was excited for her. She took the opportunity and made the most of it,? said Harper.

The women would continue to win events as Sophomore Lindsey Kenney (Plano, Texas / Senior) took first place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.20. Junior Romy Altmann (Cape Town, South Africa / German International School) won the 100 free in 53.01 and freshman Christie Raleigh (Boca Raton, Fla. / Ft. Lauderdale Pine Creast) claimed first place in the 100 back in 58.41. Freshman Kylen Huntwork (Apex, N.C. / Apex) would swim the 100 breast as an exhibition but would record the event?s fastest time of 1:05.30.

The Seminoles would also record the meet?s fastest times in all four relays: women?s 200 medley relay (1:47.95), men?s 200 medley relay (1:36.00), women?s 200 free relay (1:37.93) and men?s 200 free relay (1:26.87).

?It was a pretty good start to the weekend and hopefully we have quite a bit in reserve for tomorrow,? said Harper.

The Seminoles will continue their road trip, as they will be back in action tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. in a dual meet with Clemson.
