While the Clemson tiger football team was dismantling Florida State, the Seminole swimmers swept the host Tigers. The FSU men defeated Clemson 143-98 to improve their record to a perfect 6-0 while the women registered a 136-105 victory over CU upping their record to 8-0.

"It is a good step for us," said head coach Neil Harper. "We are still not at that level were we can go on the road and be assured to beat a team like Clemson. They can be dangerous and if we don't perform then we don't win. It was a good test for us and our kids responded well."

Clemson Head Coach Chris Ip wasn't as upbeat as his Florida state guests, "I was disappointed with the team for not being ready. We have to be ready to go every time, especially in the ACC. The coaches and I will have to sit down and try and get these guys motivated more. We had some shining moments during the meet, but we need to have a total team effort. I thought that we looked a little sluggish. We will need to be ready for morning meets by the time we get to the ACC Championships."

Florida State got off to a fast start as the women's 400 medley relay of junior Romy Altmann (Cape Town, South Africa / German International School), junior Lauren Brick (Culpeper, Va. / Culpeper County), sophomore Lauren Sprag (Durban, South Africa / Westville Girls' High) and senior Carrie Ellis (Valrico, Fla. /Durant/Virginia) took first place with a time of 3:48.19. The men's 400 medley relay team of Jarryd Botha (Worcester, South Africa / Paul Roos Gymnasium), sophomore Billy Jamerson (Savannah, Ga. / Sandy Creek), senior Joel Roycik (Winter Park, Fla. / Winter Park) and junior Alex Kennon (Winter Haven, Fla. / Eagle Lake Lake Region) keep pace with the women as they claimed a victory with a time of 3:22.45.

Junior Steve Roof (Canton, Ohio / Central Catholic) had a big meet for the Seminoles as he picked up a win in the 1000 free (9:28.25) and the 500 free (4:33.41). Sophomore Ed Denton (Maidenhead, England / Millifield School) swam to a first place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:41.76 while classmate Ian Powell (Guernsey, Channel Islands / Millfield School) would take first in the 200 fly in 1:51.64. Roycik added a win in the 100 free with a time of 46.06 and Botha picked up another FSU win in the 200 back in 1:51.28.

Sophomore Lindsay Kenney (Plano, Texas / Senior) led the way for the women's team as she picked up a win in the 200 free (1:53.34) and then followed that up with another win in the 200 fly (2:06.68). Freshman Christie Raleigh (Boca Raton, Fla. / Ft. Lauderdal Pine Crest) picked up a win in the 50 free with a time of 23.68. Freshman Ann Cipoletti (Charleston, W.Va. / Vinton (Va.) William Boyd) recorded two wins for the Seminoles in the 200 IM (2:08.09) and 200 breast (2:19.20) while Ellis made history as she set the Clemson pool record in the 100 free with a time of 50.61.

"We were off to a good start when the men won the 1000,"said Harper. "Then we had Lindsey Kenney step forward in the 200 free. We won five of the first six events and that really set the tone for the rest of the meet."

The Seminoles were dominant in the diving events as they took first place on all four boards. On the women's side, junior Brittany Lerew (Orlando, Fla. / Lake Highland) swept both boards for the women recording 271.05 points on the 3M and 247.35 points on the 1M. On the men's side, FSU had the six highest scores in both the 1M and 3M diving events. Sophomore Alex Tilbrook (Largo, Fla. / Seminole Osceola) led the way on the 1M with 314.03 points and senior Pete Crane (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) took the 3M with 317.03 points.

With the win already in locked up, the Seminoles closed out the meet swimming the men's and women's 400 free relays as exhibitions. The women's team of Sprag, Abbie King (Brunswick, Maine / Brunswick), Raleigh and Ellis recorded the event's fastest time of 3:27.80 while the men's team of sophomore Carl Marias (Pretoria, South Africa / Wyoming), Kennon, Denton and Roycik did the same with their time of 3:03.29.

Both teams will see one another next weekend at the Nike Cup November 17-19 at Koury Natatorium.
