.: Washington & Jefferson Wins Dual Against Mount Union

The Washington & Jefferson College men's and women's swimming and diving teams improved to 2-0 overall after sweeping Mount Union College on Wednesday evening at the Henry Memorial Natatorium. The W&J men won by a score of 120-83, while the women's squad notched a 117-90 triumph.

Prior to the meet, W&J dedicated its new scoreboard to former athletic director and swimming coach Paul Reardon.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Orstein led the women's squad with a pair of victories. Orstein captured first place in the 200 IM (2:07.70) and the 500 freestyle (5:07.87) and qualified for the NCAA "B" Cut in both events. Her 500 freestyle time smashed the school record previously held by Bethany Ross by over eight seconds and also set a new pool record.

Freshman Alicia Sutton won two individual events and also helped the 200 medley relay (1:56.35) to a victory. Sutton took top honors in the 100 (55.42) and 200 (1:59.49) freestyle events.

Sophomore Kristen Mastropietro touched first in the 100 breastroke (1:08.45) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay, while freshman Susanne Seward also notched a pair of wins after claiming the 50 freestyle (25.51) and the 100 butterfly (1:04.33).

Freshmen Eddie Werner, Zach Nigrelli and Daniel Mancuso were all triple winners for the W&J men.

Werner helped the 200 medley relay (1:43.87) to a win in the opening race and then posted victories in the 200 freestyle (1:48.94) and 100 backstroke (56.54). Nigrelli took individual wins in the 50 (22.67) and 100 (49.85) and teamed with Mancuso to place first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.10). Mancuso also touched first in the 200 IM (2:03.47) and the 500 freestyle (5:01.47).
