COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. , November 10th, 2005

BYU’s Brett Allen and TCU’s Kelly McCain have been named the Mountain West Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively. Allen gathers his first weekly honor, while McCain picks up his second weekly accolade.

Allen helped the Cougars to a 5-0 record to claim the team championship at the Big West Shootout in Irvine, Calif., last weekend. On Friday (Nov. 4) against Hawaii and UC Davis, the Houston, Texas, native set a new pool record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.17 and set a new meet record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.98. On Saturday, he won the 50 free (20.27) and 100 free (45.06) en route to winning four individual events on the weekend.

McCain, a senior from Corpus Christi, Texas, won all four events on the week against MWC competition. Against UNLV on Nov. 4, McCain broke the school record on the 3-meter board with a score of 343.73, besting an 11-year school mark of 333.43. He also took tops honors in the 1-meter with a 307.73. He placed first on both the 1-meter (278.78) and 3-meter (341.48) events in a dual meet with Air Force Nov. 5.
