The Green Wave was followed in the team scoring by North Florida (738), Akron (473), North Texas (453.5), Spring Hill (188), Ouachita Baptist (118) and UNO (95).
Spring Hill won the men’s competition over Ouachita Baptist (325).
Freshman Samantha Berdine posted two individual wins and a pair of relay victories for the Green Wave.
Berdine was named Female Swimmer of the Meet after winning the 200 free (1:55.04) and the 400 IM (4:36.07), while swimming the leadoff leg of Tulane’s victorious 800 free relay (7:48.20) and the anchor leg of the winning 400 free relay squad (3:37.38). Tulane scored 1,274.5 points in the two-day invitational, winning the event by 536.5 points over runner-up North Florida. In the dual meet vs. North Texas, the Green Wave downed the Mean Green 152-65.
“This was another good day for us,” head coach Daniella Irle said. “Samantha obviously led the way, but it was a complete team effort. We’ve got three more meets before the conference tournament, and if we can have this kind of performance each time and continue to get better, I really like our chances.”
Tulane has now won a pair of invitationals during the 2004-05 season, and improve to 13-1 in dual meet action. The dual-meet victory runs the Green Wave’s winning streak to 10 with the lone loss of the year coming to No. 17 Florida State back on Oct. 15 in Tallahassee, Fla.
Berdine was one of four individuals to posts wins for the Green Wave as Lauren Patterson won the 100 back (59.38), Leslie Christian claimed the 1650 free title (17:20.74) and Taylor Emerson emerged victorious in the 200 fly (2:11.13).
Berdine was joined by Nicole Taheri, Devlyn Quinn and Sarah Dicharry to win the 800 free relay, and combined efforts with Dicharry, Cara Davidoff and Quinn to win the 400 free relay. In addition, the quartet of Patterson, Linda McEachrane, Emerson and Davidoff won the 200 medley relay to give the Green Wave eight event wins on Saturday.
Maureen Quinn led Tulane in the 100 breast with a 1:10.36 to finish fourth, and Kate Naglick paced the Green Wave’s effort in the 100 fly with a 1:01.11 to finish third to round out the morning events. In the afternoon session, Patterson posted a third-place finish in the 200 back (2:11.85), Dicharry finished second in the 100 free (54.16) and Maureen Quinn touched the wall with 2:31.20 on the clock to finish third in the 200 breast.
In the dual meet, Tulane won 11 of 13 events, including a sweep in diving as freshman Danielle Carrillo poste a 232.57 in the one-meter springboard and a 203.93 in the three-meter event.
The Green Wave return to action on Saturday, Jan. 15, when they travel to Cleveland, Miss., to take on Florida A&M, Rhodes College and host Delta State at noon. Following the trip to Mississippi, Tulane will close out its home schedule on Jan. 29 when it hosts Rice at 11 a.m. at the Reily Student Recreation Center Natatorium.
