Williams’ Men’s and Women’s swimming and diving teams defeated Amherst on Saturday. The men’s team won with a total score of 134-109, and the women's team won with a score of Amherst 155-141.
Men’s swimming saw a double win from sophomore Steve Spinelli. He won the 500 yard freestyle in 4:49.54 and the 1000 yard freestyle in 9:55.57. A notable win came from junior Will Cunningham, who won the 200 yard backstroke in 1:55.15. In women’s swimming, the 200 yard medley relay was won by .19 of a second by Williams 'A' over Amherst 'A'. The Ephs completed the race in 1:48.50 and swimming in the race were Meghan Faughnan '06, Lindsay Payne '05, Crissy Haley '08. and Katie O'Brien '05. Senior Mary Stranghoener had double wins in the 100 yard butterfly and in the 200 yard butterfly, completing the races in 58.31 seconds and 2:07.55, respectively. Freshman Annie Ferguson had an impressive win in the 1000 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 10:41.98. Senior Lindsay Payne won the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke with times of 1:03.97 and 2:19.83, respectively.
In men’s diving, a double victory was secured by sophomore Tim Nolan, who won both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events, with scores of 263.18 and 246.23, respectively. In women’s diving, freshman Julie Van Deuson won the 3 meter event with 228.90 points and placed second in the 1 meter event with 209.18 points.
