MEN

The Princeton men's swimming & diving team started the new year off with an old tradition: winning at home. The Tigers stayed perfect at Denunzio Pool and avenged a loss in 2004 with a 141-102 win over Pittsburgh Tuesday at Denunzio Pool.

Depth was the key for Princeton, which won just as many events (eight) as Pittsburgh did. The Tigers got key points from non-winners and claimed enough points to keep their unblemished record at Denunzio.

Of course, they needed each and every win they could, and several Tigers came up big. Senior Justin Chiles was the lone double-winner for the home squad, as he won the 200 free (1:39.72) and the 500 free (4:34.68). Tim Ruse won the 200 IM in 1:52.99, while Jeremy Tillman won the 100 free in 46.17 and Ryan Becker won the 100 fly in 50.87. Will Reinhardt won Princeton's most dominant race, the 50 free, in 20.94. Reinhardt led a 1-2-3 charge to the wall in that event.

Teamwork keyed wins in both the 400 medley relay and the 400 free relay, which also helped clinch the team victory.

Freshman Stuart Malcolm placed third in the three-meter diving competition, the top Princeton finisher in either of the two diving events.

WOMEN

The Pittsburgh women's swimming & diving team won 15 of 16 events en route to a dominant win over Princeton Tuesday at Denunzio Pool. Stephanie Hsiao provided Princeton's only win in a 213-87 loss to the Panthers.

Hsiao, a 2004 All-Ivy selection who swam in the NCAA championships last May, won the 100 in 51.35. Teammate Amy Jones placed second in 52.09, and she placed third in the 200 free later on (1:54.34). Jones finished behind freshman Brett Shiflett, one of the top young swimmers for Princeton; Shiflett placed second in 1:52.34

Maggie Littlefield was Princeton's top diver, placing second in the three-meter competition. Kathy Siuda was one of Pittsburgh's multiple-winners on the afternoon, as the Panthers were even more impressive this season as they were when they ended Princeton's 47-meet win streak last season.
