CHESTERTOWN, MD , January 16th, 2005

Sophomore Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) won two individual events as host Washington College defeated visiting Bryn Mawr, 114-76, in a Centennial Conference women's swim meet this afternoon at Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen improved to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial with the win, while the Owls slipped to 2-6 and 0-4 with the loss.

Simons won the 200 individual medley in 2:19.31 and then swam a Washington College season-best time of 1:01.20 to win the 100 butterfly. Senior Samantha Shaffer (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown), sophomore Caitlin Auger (McLean, VA/McLean), senior Emily Rawson (Derwood, MD/Richard Montgomery) and sophomore Liz Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) each won one individual event for the Shorewomen. Rawson won the 200 freestyle in 2:08.86, Shaffer the 50 freestyle in 26.53, Auger the 100 freestyle in 57.75, and Shoemaker the 100 backstroke in 1:02.69.

Washington's 200 medley relay team of Shoemaker, Shaffer, senior Ana Prado (Ferrol, Spain/Tirso) and Auger took first place in 1:57.30.

Sophomore Kimmy Kraeer (Denton, MD/North Caroline), freshman Nicole Ludwig (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan), sophomore Sidra Carman (Silver Spring, MD/Albert Einstein), sophomore Erin Jones (Crofton, MD/Arundel), Rawson and Prado each recorded one second-place finish. Jones was second in the 1000 freestyle in 11:59.19, Kraeer in the 50 freestyle in 26.86, Ludwig in the 200 individual medley in 2:20.56, Rawson in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.04, Carman in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.80, and Prado in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.51.

Washington swimmers entered the final three events as exhibition entrants only. In the 500 freestyle, Jones, swimming exhibition, posted the second-fastest time in the race, 5:48.03. Shaffer and sophomore Kelsey Pont (Ellington, CT/Ellington) swam as exhibitions in the 100 breaststroke, recording the first- and second-fastest times of 1:10.46 and 1:17.60, respectively. Auger, Ludwig, Jones, and Carman swam the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay with an exhibition mark of 1:48.83.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 6:00 p.m. non-conference meet at Goucher College.
