Scott Thompson and Andy Dilz won the 1650 free and 200 breaststroke, respectively, to lift the Rutgers men's swimming and diving team to a first-place finish in the Rutgers Super Splash, as the Scarlet Knights held off unbeaten Columbia for the title. The 25th-ranked women's squad, meanwhile, wrapped up its stellar weekend with four more first-place finishes and captured the title on the women's side.

Thompson swam a winning time of 15:43.63 in the 1650 free, which is the fastest mark in the BIG EAST this season. Dilz picked up valuable points as the winner of the 200 breast (2:05.64), and teammate Jonathan Hupp was fourth (2:07.49). In the 200 backstroke, Zach Shimota was second (1:52.50) and Josh Griffey was seventh (1:55.09).

Tyler Clark wrapped up a successful weekend by placing second in the 200 fly (1:52.20) and Larry Rosa was fifth (1:55.06). In the 400 medley relay, the team of Shimota, Dilz, Clark and Adam Papendick was second in a time of 3:26.67.

In the diving events, Artjorn Jangols was eighth in the 3-meter dive and Andre Watson was seventh in the 1-meter dive.

On the women's side, Rutgers had three first-place winners and a winning 400 medley relay team on Sunday. Kelly Harrigan had an NCAA "A" cut time in the 200 backstroke (1:56.89), and three other Scarlet Knights finished in the top five of the event. Allyson Parent was second (2:05.51), Cat Whetstone was third (2:05.85) and Annie Goldstein was fifth (2:07.26).

Freshman Madison Kennedy won the 100 freestyle in 50.03, followed in second place by Ashley Dunphy (52.37). Kasey Kesses was fifth (52.69) and Angelina Colavito was sixth (52.84). Allie Dean claimed first place in the 200 breatstroke (2:16.33) and Katie Kuczmarski was second (2:21.87). Sara Bicknell was second in the 200 fly (2:03.32) and Linda Tate was third (2:06.19).

The 400 medley relay, which consisted of Harrigan, Dean, Bicknell and Kennedy, team finished in first place (3:43.81).

Erica Moreland highlighted the diving events with a third-place showing in the 1-meter dive (230.3 points).

Rutgers will be off until January 6, 2006, when it returns to action with a dual meet in Cambridge, MA, against Harvard.
