.: Orstein Earns PAC Weekly Honor

WASHINGTON, Pa. , December 5th, 2005

For the second time in four weeks, Washington & Jefferson College sophomore Kaitlyn Orstein was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Women’s Swimmer of the Week on Monday afternoon by the conference office.

Orstein led the W&J women to a second-place finish out of nine teams this past weekend at the Ninth Annual James E. Longnecker Invitational at Grove City College.

In the first day of action, Orstein helped the Presidents’ 200 freestyle relay to a victory in a time of 1:39.49. The winning time was just 0.16 seconds off of the invitational record pace. She then set an invitational record and also qualified for the NCAA “A” Cut during her victory in the 200 IM (2:05.91).

On Saturday, Orstein helped the 200 medley relay to an early victory in a time of 1:52.37. She followed that up with a win in the 400 IM (4:34.16), setting an invitational record in the process and qualifying for the NCAA “B” Cut.

Orstein then shattered pool and invitational records during her NCAA “A” Cut winning time in the 100 breastroke (1:04.88) and rounded out the weekend by leading the 400 (3:40.25) and 800 (8:09.81) freestyle relay teams to first-place finishes.

The 2004-2005 Presidents’ Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Year holds 10 W&J individual records and has been part of five relays which own school records.

Last year, Orstein became the first student-athlete in school history to win two national swimming titles as she captured the 200 and 400 individual medley championships. Her time of 2:03.18 in the 200 IM is a national Division III record.
