.: Marist College Women Lead H20unds Invite

BALTIMORE, MD , December 3rd, 2005

Senior Jackie Fountaine (Lourdes H.S./Pawling, N.Y.) finished first in the 50 freestyle and helped the Marist College women's swimming and diving team earn a victory in the 200 free relay as the Red Foxes took an early advantage over host Loyola College, Niagara University and Catholic University after the opening session of the H2Ounds Invitational at the Mangione Aquatic Center on Friday evening.

The Red Foxes lead all three teams by a 54-20 score following the first nine events. Loyola leads Niagara and Catholic by 51-23 margins while Niagara is ahead of the Cardinals by a 39-35 score.

Meanwhile, on the men's side, sophomore Greg Jablonski (Holy Trinity H.S./Massapequa, N.Y.) and junior Nick Chevalier (Milford H.S./Milford, N.J.) each won individual events and guided Marist to a second place finish in the 200 free relay as the Red Foxes took early leads over Catholic, Niagara and Loyola. Marist has a 76-14 cushion over the Cardinals while jumping ahead of the Purple Eagles with a 70.5-21.5 advantage. The Red Foxes have a 60-32 lead over the host Greyhounds, who are ahead of Niagara and Catholic following the first evening. Niagara jumped out to a 54.5-28.5 advantage over the Cardinals.

Fountaine finished first in the 50 free with a time of :24.85 while also helping the Red Foxes earn the win in the 200 free relay by swimming the opening leg of the relay. Marist finished the event with a time of 1:40.42 while Loyola took second with a mark of 1:42.60.

Freshman Savannah Puca (St. Anthony's H.S./Port Jefferson, N.Y.) earned first place in the 400 individual medley for Marist with a mark of 4:41.73 while junior Nori Skoda (Bernards H.S./Bernardsville, N.J.) led Loyola with a second place time of 4:55.81. Juniors Jennie Zohorsky (Mount Hebron H.S./Ellicott City, Md.) and Laura Hanlon (Mt. St. Mary Academy/Union, N.J.) finished in third and fourth places, respectively.

Freshman Leigh Ann Scoppetuolo (St. Thomas Aquinas H.S./Plantation, Fla.) led the Cardinals in the opening session by touching the wall first in the 1650 free with a time of 18:22.50. She also swam the anchor leg in the 200 free relay, which finished in third place.

Freshman Hope Wiles (St. Paul's School/Baltimore, Md.) finished second in the 1650 free with a mark of 18:36.61 to lead Niagara in the opening session.

Jablonski earned the victory in the 400 individual medley for Marist by touching the wall in 4:15.33 while Chevalier took the victory in the 1650 free with a commanding time of 16:37.63, which was nearly 21 seconds faster than the second place mark recorded by sophomore teammate Ralph Rienzo (Notre Dame H.S./Wallingford, Conn.).

In addition, the Red Foxes took the first three spots in the men's one-meter diving event as sophomore Devon O'Nalty (East Hartford H.S./East Hartford, Conn.) earned first place with a score of 199.95 points. Sophomores Jesus Santos (N. Rockland H.S./Haverstraw, N.Y.) and John Luboja (Fordham Prep/New York, N.Y.) followed in second and third places, respectively.

Junior Ryan Reeser (Garnet Valley H.S./Glen Mills, Pa.) earned second place for the Greyhounds in the 50 free with a time of :21.79 while helping Loyola win the 200 free relay by swimming the anchor leg. Freshman Ernest Verrico (Fairfield Prep/Stamford, Conn.) swam the opening leg of the victorious relay while earning a third place showing in the 400 individual medley.

Niagara freshman Zak Brown (Garces Memorial H.S./Bakerfield, Calif.) led the Purple Eagles in the opening session by taking third place in the 50 free with a time of :22.43 while also helping Niagara finish third in the 200 free relay.

Senior Paul Czar (Egg Harbor H.S./Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) led the Cardinals by finishing tied with Brown for third place in the 50 free.

The two-day event concludes on Saturday with a pair of sessions beginning at 10:00 a.m.
