Triple-Winners Lead National Swimmer-of-the-Week Awards

Triple winners were the name of the game for Columbia, Harvard, Grand Valley, Lock Haven, Hope and CMS swimmers named as CollegeSwimming.com National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week (NCSW) for their performances December 8-11, 2005. The six were selected by a panel of collegiate coaches and nominated by coaches, sports information directors, conference representatives and CollegeSwimming.com staffers.

Erin Mulkey, Harvard University
San Antonio, Texas
In overwhelming 204.5-95.5 win over Penn, Mulkey was one of two triple winners of the meet. Mulkey won the 100 Fly (58.77). And then was on the winning 200 Medley Relay (1:48.50) and 200 Free Relay. Mulkey, being part of the two victorious relays, was a key to improving Harvard’s dual meet winning streak to 14.

Tobin White, Columbia University
Mt. Herman, California
White had three wins and one second place finish in a 197.5-102.5 win over Penn. White started the meet with a win in the 200 Free (1:41.32) and then the 50 Free (21.47). White’s second place finish came in the 200 Back (1:55.54). White end the meet on a high note by anchoring the Lion’s victorious 200 Free Relay (1:24.81)

Diana Sujanski, Lock Haven University
Plum, Pennsylvania
Sujanski won all three of her event this past weekend to contribute to a 118-80 victory over Juniata College. Sujanski’s first win came on her breast leg of the 200 Medley Relay (31.42). Then went on to break the LHU pool record and NCAA ‘B’ Qualifying time in the 50 Free (24.53). Sujanski’s third and final victory came in the 200 Breast (2:29.58) with a new pool and LHU varsity record.

Evan Kobes, Grand Valley State
Holland, Michigan
Kobes recorded three first place finishes as Grand Valley State defeated Hope College, 140-97 on Friday. Kobes posted an NCAA ‘A’ qualifying time and set a GVSU varsity record en route to a first place finish in the 100 Back (49.60). Kobes recorded a ‘B’ cut time to finish first in the 50 Free (21.02). Kobes also led the 200 Medley Relay to a GVSU varsity record-setting time of 1:33.48 and was good for his third first place finish.

Sarah Heine, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
Sheridan, Wyoming
Heine won three events in dual meet victory against UC-Santa Cruz 140-102. Heine’s individual victories were her NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time in the 200 Free (1:55.25) and the second win was in the 500 Free (5:10.82). At the end of the meet Heine finished with the fastest split of the women in the 400 Free Relay (3:41.92, split 54.36)

Kurtis Blohm, Hope College
Wilmington, Ohio
Blohm was the only triple winner in a Dutchman loss to DII Grand Valley State 97-140. Blohm won the 200 IM (1:58.32) and the NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time in the 100 Free (46.50). Blohm finished up with the fastest 50 split of the meet as he anchored the winning Hope 200 Free Relay (1:25.18, split 20.60).
