.: Washington College Sweeps Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown, PA , December 11th, 2005

The Washington College women's swim team defeated Elizabethtown, 124-79, in a non-conference meet this afternoon in Elizabethtown, PA. Junior Ally Simons (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) finished first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.18. Simons also added a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.51.

Sophomore Nicole Stanton (Columbia, MD/Hammond) finished first in the 1,000 freestyle in 11:48.30, while sophomore Courtney Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) finished second in the event in 11:58.70. Sophomore Megan Morse (Easton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) recorded a first place finish in the 400 individual medley in 4:58.25, while junior Erin Jones (Crofton, MD/Arundel) finished first in the 500 freestyle in 5:39.49.

Junior Caitlin Auger (McLean, VA/McLean) finished first in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.12 and finished second in the 200 freestyle in 2:08.50,

Freshman Andrea Cole (Felton, DE/Caesar Rodney) finished second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.93. Sophomore Nicole Ludwig (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan) finished second in the 100 freestyle in 1:02.54. Freshman Kimber Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) finished second in the 100 backstroke in 1:08.36. Junior Liz Shoemaker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) finished second in the 500 freestyle in 5:43.04.

Liz Shoemaker, Auger, Kimmy Kraeer (Denton, MD/North Caroline) and Anna Green (St. Louis, MO/Principia) finished first in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.41, while the team of Liz Shoemaker, Morse, Simons and Kraeer finished second in the 200 medley relay in 1:56.86.

The Shorewomen will travel to Florida during winter break, and will return to action on Jan. 14 at 1 p.m. at Bryn Mawr against Randolph-Macon and Bryn Mawr.

Freshman Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson), sophomore Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall), and junior Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) each won two individual events as the Washington College men's swim team claimed first place in every race and defeated Elizabethtown College, 140-48, in a non-conference meet this afternoon in Elizabethtown, PA. The Shoremen evened their record to 3-3 overall this season with the win.

Wentzel won the 200 freestyle in 1:56.30 and the 500 freestyle in 5:19.60. Thomas won the 50 freestyle in 23.51 and the 100 butterfly in 56.38. Soper took first in the 400 individual medley in 4:32.63 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.21.

Sophomore Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East) added a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke (59.69) and a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:58.35), while junior Lars Kalp (Everett, PA/Mercersburg Academy) won the 1000 freestyle (11:37.09) and was second in the 100 freestyle (54.71). Sophomore Eddie Raleigh (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) won the 100 freestyle (53.91), while freshman Kevin Lonergan (Milford, DE/Milford) was second in the 500 freestyle (5:50.48).

Wentzel, Soper, Munger, and senior Dean Campbell (La Plata, MD/La Plata) won the 200 medley relay in 1:46.27. Raleigh, Becker, Kalp, and Thomas won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:36.28.

The Shoremen will head to Florida for a training trip in early January and will return to competition January 21st with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Dickinson.
