.: Tennessee's Colella Latest to Step Down
Knoxville, TN , April 1st, 2005
The resignations continue to roll in and today's comes from Rockytop where Tennessee women's coach Dan Colella has tendered his resignation.
"We are grateful for Dan's contributions to the program over the last 15 years," UT Women's Athletic Director Joan Cronan said. "I especially appreciate his dedication to the Lady Vol family."
Cronan said a search for a successor will begin immediately.
Colella had been involved with the Lady Vol swimming program since 1990 when he was hired as an assistant. Three years later he took over for Pete Raykovich, who'd finished 6th in the SEC.
This year the Vols suffered a 7th place finish in the conference, due in large part to a pair of relay DQ's and, according to the Knoxville Sentinel, injuries to a pair of key divers.
Colella does leave behind a string of successes. Under his guideance, UT earned 143 All-America citations, perennially garnered CSCAA Academic All-American honors and, and brought the Lady Vols their first NCAA champion in Nicole DeMann and his teams perennially achieved success in the classroom.
