.: Canisius Names Trzybinski Head Swimming Coach

Buffalo, NY , September 15th, 2004

Canisius College Director of Athletics Timothy J. Dillon announced today that Laura Trzybinski has been hired as the new head coach of men and women’s swimming and diving at the College. Trzybinski replace Jason Morini, who resigned last week to take the same position at College Misericordia in Dallas, Pa.

Trzybinski, a 2003 graduate of St. Bonaventure University, was a three-year letterwinner for the Bonnies and assisted in all aspects of the summer swim camp. Due to an injury in her senior season, Trzybinski gained team management experience while assisting head coach Lance Brennan.

"I believe Laura will be a great fit here at Canisius," Dillon said. "Her extensive swimming background and enthusiasm about the program will undoubtly take Canisius swimming and diving to the next level."

An eight-time high school All-American at Magnificat High School in Rocky River, Ohio, Trzybinski was previously the assistant swimming coach at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in Buffalo, N.Y., and at St. Joseph’s Academy in Cleveland, Ohio.

Trzybinski graduated from St. Bonaventure with a bachelor’s degree in political science and received a master’s degree in early childhood education from Cleveland State University in 2004. She is working toward a master’s degree in childhood education with initial teaching licensure from Buffalo State College. Trzybinski is the wife of Canisius College Director of Men’s Basketball Operations Mike Trzybinski.

The Golden Griffins open the 2004-05 season with a four-way meet at Virginia Military Institute, Saturday, Oct. 23, with Radford and Old Dominion. Canisius returns 11 letterwinners to this year’s squad.
