Meet Results

The men’s swimming and diving team finished its two day competition against Iowa today, winning with a score of 209-138. The Badgers move to 3-0 overall, 1-0 in the Big Ten.

The men took first in seven of the eight events today, led by senior co-captain Tim Liebhold (Chapel Hill, N.C.), who once again stole the show by taking first in three events. He won the 200-yard backstroke (1:51.42), the 400-yard IM (4:02.29) and helped the University of Wisconsin 400-yard medley relay team consisting of Liebhold, Adam Mania (Hickman, Neb.), Nick Bennett )Birmingham, Ala.) and Eric Wiesner (Montrose, Colo.) to capture first with a time of 3:22.28.

“The team performed well and we had a very strong opening Big Ten meet,” said head coach Eric Hansen.

Wiesner took first in the 100-yard freestyle (44.97) and was part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team of (1:23.28).

Mania added a victory in the 100-yard butterfly (49.83).

The 500-yard freestyle race was swept by the Badgers. Taking the top three spots were Mike Swanson (Lancaster, Pa.) with a time of 4:35.63, Tom Molzhan (Barrington, Ill.) with a time of 4:36.02 and Michael Hamm (Waukesha, Wis.) in the time of 4:39.00.

Iowa’s lone winner was Agache Dragos, who took first in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:07.52.
