Senior Brad Schertle (Baltimore, Md.) swept the distance events, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:41.94 and the 500-free in 4:42.39, and sophomore Kevin Ford (Sinking Spring, Pa.) notched the first two victories of his career, winning both the 50- and 100-free with times of 21.51 and 47.18, respectively. Freshman Derek Hock (Aliquippa, Pa.) also swept the diving events with scores of 243.00 on the one-meter board and 228.00 on the three-meter, the first two victories of his career.
Freshman Martin Ott (Bayreuth, Germany) notched the first win of his career, taking victory in the 200-IM (1:53.04). He also finished second in the 500-free (4:44.70). Other winners for the men included seniors Chris Brandenberger (Stony Brook, N.Y.) in the 200-free (1:43.05), Mike Fried (Ambler, Pa.) in the 100-fly (51.33) and Erik Weinberg (Phoenix, Md.) in the 100-back (51.48). Brandenberger also finished second to Weinberg in the 100-back (51.72).
Junior Patrick Doyle (Norfolk, Va.) took second in both the 100- and 200-free with times of 47.74 and 1:43.07, respectively, senior Tim Potter (West Deptford, N.J.) was runner-up in the 100-breast (59.66) and freshman Jason Eccleston (Reisterstown, Md.) finished second in both diving events with scores of 216.29 on the one-meter board and 221.02 on the three-meter board.
In addition, the Terps swept both relays, with times of 1:26.22 in the 200-free relay and 1:34.88 in the 200-medley relay.
On the women's side, senior Chrissy Miller (Seaside Park, N.J.) led the way with wins in the 100- and 200-free (51.76 and 1:50.44, respectively). Her time in the 200-free was an NCAA `B' cut. Freshman Nicole Rose (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) swept the diving events with scores of 253.12 on the one-meter board and 275.10 on the three-meter for the first two victories of her career.
Senior Elizabeth Lavell (Annapolis, Md.) won the 1,000-free (10:11.18) and came in second in the 500-free (5:00.89) to freshman Meghan Sackett (Cockeysville, Md.) who won with an NCAA `B' cut time of 4:53.16 for the first victory of her career. Sackett also finished second in the 200-free (1:52.12).
Other winners for the Terps included seniors Cynthia Weir (Irwin, Pa.) in the 50-free (23.71), Marina Mulyayeva (Almaty, Kazakhstan) in the 200-IM (2:06.89) and Megan Knepper (Williamsport, Md.) in the 100-back (56.61) and sophomore Gigi deToll (Culpeper, Va.) in the 100-fly (56.70).
The women took the top four spots in the 200-free with freshman Maya Finkler (Rishon-le-Zion, Israel) and junior Inbal Levavi (Kibbutz Givat Haim, Israel) finishing third and fourth behind Miller and Sackett. The Terps also took the top four in the 50-free with freshman Tanya Nielsen (Irvine, Calif.), sophomore Amber Walter (Kalispell, Mont.) and sophomore Kaleena Laputka (Shamong, N.J.) finishing behind Weir.
The top four spots in the 200-IM also belonged to the Terps, with freshman Julie O'Brien (Damascus, Md.), freshman Stacie Lesneski (Gardner, Mass.) and sophomore Kerry McFadden (Longwood, Fla.) finishing behind Mulyayeva. In the 100-fly, sophomore Erica Suguiyama (Ijamsville, Md.), Weir and junior Barbara Sumrall (Chattanooga, Tenn.) came in second, third and fourth behind deToll.
The women also took the top four spots in the 100- and 500-free, with Nielsen, Mulyayeva and Laputka finishing behind Miller in the 100, and sophomore Sasha Malanina (Volgograd, Russia) and Finkler finishing behind Sackett and Lavell in the 500.
Freshman Kirsten Jones (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) took second in the 1,000-free (10:20.72) and senior Caitlin Gannon (Evans City, Pa.) came in second in the 100-back (1:00.26). In addition, the women won the 200-medley relay in 1:48.44.
