Denison Sweeps NCAC Relays
The start to the 2004-2005 swimming season didn’t go quite the way the Kenyon College Lords had envisioned. Despite winning seven of eight relay events Saturday, Kenyon had to settle for second place behind rival Denison University during the annual North Coast Athletic Conference Relays. The Big Red women also held off second place by two points to claim the title. Denison will compete against Ohio Wesleyan and Oberlin on Saturday, Oct. 30 while Kenyon will start dual meet competition next Saturday against Ohio University.

Carthage Sweeps Double Distance and Double Duals
A night after the Carthage men’s and women’s swimming teams swept a
non-traditional double distance meet against Lewis University and Wheeling
Jesuit University, the Redmen and Lady Reds swept the NCAA Division II foes in
an afternoon double-dual at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center. With a 144-60 win
over the Flyers, the Lady Reds avenged a narrow 11-point loss last season and
posted some of their most impressive un-tapered swims in school history. The
200 medley relay of Tricia Biedron, Kelli Klepel, Meredith Fridline, and Jen
Fournier narrowly missed the school record. Freshman Daria Lindsey and Klepel,
a junior, led a 1-2 sweep of the 200 IM and came just 0.2 seconds from doing the
same in the 200 breaststroke. Freshman Sarah Rosiecki and Sophomore Rachael
Reid equaled the feat, going 1-2 in the 500 Freestyle. The Lady Reds also
picked up wins against Lewis from Carolyn Kelly (50 free) and Meredith Fridline
(200 butterfly), and against Wheeling Jesuit from Jen Fournier (100 freestyle).
“We had some very nice swims this afternoon,” said women’s coach Sue Nutty, “We didn’t back down against a pair of very good teams and will be able to rely on that experience as we look towards bigger and faster goals."
On the men’s side of things, four different Redmen picked up individual wins. Nathaniel Chapman, Zach Jole, Casey Griffiths and Steve Szymanski started the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. Henry Somers swept the 100 and 200 freestyle. Jole led a 1-2 sweep of the 200 IM with Roberto Jorda-Cid. Jole finished second to teammate Ivan Manolov in the 200 breaststroke while Chapman added a win in the 200 backstroke. The Carthage teams return to the pool on Saturday, October 30, sending split squads to Wabash College to face Wabash and Trannsylvania University and to Wheaton, Illinois for the CCIW Fall Classic.
