The Texas A&M women’s swimming & diving team beat conference foes Kansas and Missouri to open their dual meet season at Robinson Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies beat Missouri 190-101 and host Kansas 187-111. A&M won 15 of the 16 events in the concurrently-run dual meets, including both diving events. The Aggies finished first and second in eight of the 16 events as well.

Senior Danielle Townsend (Bakersfield, Calif.), junior Erin Briskie (Dallas), sophomore Rebecca Sturdy (Anacortes, Wash.) and freshman Jenni Stratton (Portland, Ore.) each won two races apiece.

Townsend posted an NCAA consideration time in the 100-yard freestyle for the second straight day. Townsend won the 100 free in 50.60 after setting a pool record of 50.31 at the Big 12 Relays a day earlier. She added a win in the 50 free in a time of 23.75. She also swam legs on the winning 200 medley relay (1:44.34) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:27.12).

Sturdy easily earned an NCAA consideration mark in the 100 backstroke by posting a time of 55.43 to distance her closest competitor by more than two seconds. Sturdy also cruised to a win the 200 back in 2:03.22 in addition to swimming legs on each of the Aggies’ two winning relays.

Briskie came within a second of an NCAA consideration mark in the 100 breaststroke after swimming a time of 1:04.55. She also captured the 200 breast in 2:20.38 and swam the breast leg on the winning 200 medley relay team.

Stratton also captured a pair of events in her first-ever dual meet for the Aggies. The true freshman won both the 1,000 freestyle (10:15.23) and the 200 individual medley (2:06.31).

The Aggie divers continued their unbeaten streak with wins on both the one and three-meter springboards. Three-time All-American Alida DiPlacido (Montreal, Que., Canada) led a 1-2-3 A&M sweep on the one-meter with a winning score of 230.00. Junior Rosie Whiting (Burley-in-Wharfdale, England) won the three-meter with a score of 241.45. Freshman Mari-Michelle Musselman (San Antonio) was second on the three-meter (228.15) and third on the one-meter (220.00) as well.

Other Aggies winning events on Saturday were Caty Lieb (Brookfield, Wis.), 200 free, 1:52.27; Jenna Wheeler (Ft. Smith, Ark.), 200 fly, 2:03.93; and Tiffany Moore (Jacksonville, Fla.), 500 free , 5:02.44.

The Aggies will take a week off before heading to Dallas for a Oct. 29 meeting against nationally-ranked SMU. The following day the squad will trek north to Denton to take on North Texas and Louisiana-Monroe.
