Texas women's swimming and diving opened its season strong, capturing event titles in 13 of 16 events, en route to a 192-107 dual-meet win over the University of Kansas in Robinson Natorium on Thursday, Oct. 14. Senior Kaela Humphries (Chaska, Minn.), sophomore Elizabeth Tinnon (Bowling Green, Ky.), freshman Macie Garrett (Nashville, Tenn.) and sophomore diver Ali Bunting (Grafton, Wis.) each captured individual titles in multiple events to lead the Longhorns.

"As a whole, the team did a great job," said Texas co-head coach Jill Sterkel. "We had a pretty long travel day today and I thought they did a good job of staying focused and taking care of business when it would have been real easy to come in a little flat."

Texas took the lead right from the start, earning the top-two performances in the first event of the meet – the 200-yard medley relay – and reeling off wins in six-straight events to open the meet. Humphries, who also captured individual event titles in the 200-yard individual medley as well as the 200-yard backstroke and placed second behind Texas junior Kristy Siminski (Portage, Ind.) in the 200-yard freestyle on the night, joined sophomore Elaine Ferritto (Columbus, Ohio) and juniors Ashley Razo (Woodbridge, Va.) and Jaclyn Faulkner (New Orleans, La.) to win the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 1:46.30. Texas' foursome of freshman Diana MacManus (Irvine, Calif.), sophomore Katie Robinson (Dillsboro, Ind.), Siminski and Tinnon finished just 15-hundredths of a second behind, touching the wall in 1:46.35.

Garrett followed suit, winning her first of two events on the night in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:10.49), before Siminski was back in the water to capture the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.64). Garrett was also victorious in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:58.99. Following wins by MacManus and Tinnon in the 100-yard backstroke and breaststroke, respectively, senior Alisa Schuknecht (Bend, Ore.) lead a trio of Longhorns to the top spots in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 2:06.65. Robinson and junior Erin Wehrmann (Fort Worth, Texas) finished second and third.

Kansas' Amy Gruber ended the Texas' streak at six, finishing ahead of senior Sarah Wanezek (Brookfield, Wis.) in the 50-meter freestyle.

Meanwhile, on the diving front, Bunting earned the one- and three-meter sweep, with scores of 255.07 and 264.15, respectively, while senior Monica Maxwell (San Jose, Calif.) finished third in the one-meter dive and fourth in three-meter competition.

After the diving break, Wanezek bested Gruber in the 100-yard freestyle (51.59) before Humphries (200-yard backstroke), Tinnon (200-yard breaststroke) and Garrett (500-yard freestyle) each earned third second titles of the night.
