Meet Results

Trailing Georgia Tech by six points with two events remaining, NC State women's swimming was clutch down the stretch improving to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the ACC. Down 106-100, Halle Kiehlmier and Erin Trau finished 1-2 in the 200 breaststroke to give NC State a 115-110 lead with only the 400 freestyle relay left in the meet. Despite an ever changing relay lineup, the Wolfpack got an amazing performance from eight women to capture second and third out of four relay teams to post a score of 122, one point better than Georgia Tech

Kiehlmier swam a 2:22.68 in the 200 breast to win the event, a time that narrowly missed the top-10 in the conference, and her best time on the season by nearly three seconds. Trau finished in second with a 2:25.00, her second fastest time this season.

The night belonged to the relay teams, as the foursome of Kendall Smith, Kiehlmier, Victoria Niemeyer and Kerry Whitson won the opening event of the night, taking the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:35.55, the fifth best time in the conference and the top time in the event this season for NC State, nearly four second faster than the previous time.

In the final and deciding event, Rachel Bumgardner, Liz Herron, Amy Baskwell and Catherine Parks took second place with a 3:36.96, while the foursome of Emily Clabaugh, Mellisa Jamerino, Jenny Bland and Shannon Brewer took third with time of 3:37.99.

Lindsey Barwegen continued her unbeaten streak in the 1000 freestyle, swimming a 10:11.12 for her fourth win in four tries.

Kerry Whitson won her third and fourth events of the season, taking the 100 free and the 200 free against the Yellow Jackets. She swam a 53.23 in the 100 free and a 1:53.37 in the 200 free, the two fastest times in those events for her this season, and the top marks on the team as well.

Jess Koenig won the 200 IM as she continues to swim well in the event, posting a 2:07.43 in the event.

Molly Culberson won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving for the fourth time this season and her eight first place finishes are tied with Barwegen for first on the team.

Wolfpack men's swimming fell to Georgia Tech on Friday night, Nov. 5, by a score of 140-97 to fall to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets (3-3, 3-1) are a solid third in the ACC after defeating NC State. The Wolfpack won five events in the loss, including a sweep of the sprint freestyle events.
