.: ECU Swimming and Diving Defeats James Madison and George Mason

HARRISONBURG, VA , November 4th, 2004

The East Carolina Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams picked up their third wins of the season after downing James Madison University Friday afternoon at the Savage Natatorium. The Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Dukes, 150-83, while the ECU men's team won, 129-94. Senior Diane Parker and freshman Josh Barthlow both set JMU's Savage Natatorium pool records in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke respectively. Parker recorded a time of 57.09 and Barthlow won with 50.45.

On the women's side, Parker paced the Pirate women with her record setting win in the 100 butterfly. Freshman Elizabeth-Claire Moore won the 100 backstroke (59.93) while fellow classmate Meghan Pulaski won the 1000 freestyle (10:38.59). Juniors Holly Williams and Courtney Felker also claimed first place finishes. Williams won the 200 IM (2:10:12) and Felker captured the 100 freestyle (53:44). Sophomores Kate Gordon and Jennie Meade completed a sweep of the freestyle events with Gordon winning the 50 (24.89)and Meade the 200 (1:55:72). The 200 medley relay team of Moore, Parker, Gordon and Williams placed first in 1:49.44.

In the diving pool, freshman Christie Icenhower won the one-meter and three-meter dives, scoring a 244.87 and 212.55.

On the men's side, Barthlow paced the Pirate men with his record in the 100 backstroke. Senior Gavin Stark won first place in the 200 freestyle (1:44:21), and the 100 freestyle (46.97). Sophomore Matt Donohue won the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.63. Kelly Hendrick won the 50 freestyle (21.69), and Casey Cronin won the 200 IM (1:55:38). The 200 medley relay team of Barthlow, Cronin, Neville, and Justin Brinkley place first in 1:33:71.

Freshmen Ryan Hunt won the one and three meter diving competion scoring 228.97 and 277.87.

On Saturday vs. George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. - The East Carolina Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams picked up their fourth wins of the season after downing George Mason University Saturday afternoon at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. The Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Patriots, 151-87, while the ECU men's team won, 153-90. The women won 12 of 13 events while the men won 10 of 13 events. On the women's side, freshman Meghan Pulaski paced the Pirate women winning first place in the 1,000 freestyle (10:34.67) and the 500 freestyle (5:07.89). Seniors Diane Parker, Martha Snead and Lindsay Holman each won their events. Parker in the 200 IM (2:08.43), Snead in the 100 freestyle (53.78), and Holman in the 50 freestyle (24:61). Sophomore Jennie Meade completed the freestyle sweep in the 200 (1:55.93). Junior Holly Williams took first in the 200 butterfly (2:05.70) and freshman Elizabeth-Claire Moore won the 200 backstroke (2:08.20). The 400 medley relay team of Moore, Parker, Kate Gordon and Courtney Felker placed first in 3:56:89.

In the diving pool, freshman Christie Icenhower won the one-meter, scoring 258.81.

On the men's side, senior Gavin Stark paced the Pirate men in the freestyle events winning the 100 (47:31) and 200 (1:43:32) freestyle for second consecutive meet. Senior, Casey Cronin won the 200 IM (1:53:48) and the 200 breaststroke (2:08.32), while freshman Josh Barthlow and senior Justin Brinkley won both of their events. Barthlow won the 200 backstroke (1:53.09) and Brinkley won the 50 free (21:48). The 400 medley relay team of Barthlow, Cronin, Matt Donohue, and Josh Curnutte placed first (3:28:68). The 400 freestyle relay team of Greg Neville, Kelly Hendrick, Curnutte, and Stark also finished first in 3:09.88. Freshman Ryan Hunt won the one meter diving competition scoring 264.29.

East Carolina returns to action next Saturday when the Pirates travel to Durham to take on Duke at 2 p.m
