Just hours after dropping a dual meet to national power Drury, the UMR swimming team posted an impressive 124-81 win Saturday over Truman State University at the UMR Pool. With this being the Miners' only home meet of the season, the team made the most of it by posting winning performances in nine of the 11 events. Sophomore Matt Hammond and freshman Matt Hug each won two individual events, with Hammond winning the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:10.30 and the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:00.23. Hug, who also won two events on Friday, claimed wins in the 200-freestyle in 1:44.95 and 500-free in 4:44.20. UMR also got individual wins from Andy Lozier in the 50-freestyle (22.15), Josh McCord in the 200-butterfly (1:59.99) and Matt Adams in the 100-freestyle (48.83). Both of UMR's relay teams also won their races, with the 400-medley team of Adams, Bill Gaul, Travis Stensby and Mark Chamberlain posting a time of 3:33.23 and the 400-freestyle quartet of Andy Shelley, David Mendoza, Lozier and Hug finishing with the best time in 3:12.87. The Miners also had seven second place finishes and swept the top three spots in two events, the 100-freestyle and 200-breaststroke. UMR's next competition is slated for the weekend of Dec. 3-4 when it takes part in the Arkansas-Little Rock Invitational.
