.: Six Tabbed for National Honors

Minnesota, Arizona, Indianapolis, Truman State, Johns Hopkins and Denison swimmers earned CollegeSwimming.com National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week (NCSW) honors for their performances November 5-7, 2004. The six were selected by a panel of collegiate coaches and nominated by coaches, sports information directors, conference representatives and CollegeSwimming.com staffers. The National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week Awards are underwritten by Counsilman-Hunsaker & Associates, a multi-service engineering, planning, and design firm that specializes in aquatic facilities.

Justin Mortiner, Minnesota
Milton, MA

Mortimer went undefeated over the weekend in a triple dual with No. 11 North Carolina and Virginia Tech. He won four individual events 500 Free (4:25.87), 1000 Free (9:06.19), 200 IM (1:50.39), 400 IM (3:55.85), and swam the lead leg of the winning 800 free relay. The four-time U.S. National champion has won six of the seven individual events he has competed in this season. Minnesota defeated #11 North Carolina 239-127 and Virginia Tech 268-98 at Chapel Hill, N.C.

Whitney Myers, Arizona
Oxford, OH

Myers won the 100 (55.99) and 200 fly (2:01.79). Along with being on the winning 200 medley relay (1:44.20) and 400 free relay (3:26.74). With 4 first place finishes, Meyer led the Wildcats to a 141-119 victory over No. 10 Wisconsin.

Drew Hastings, Indianapolis
Franklin, TN

Hastings won three events at the Truman State Bulldog Invitational, which included three NCAA provisional times 200 IM (1:55.39), 400 IM (4:08.59), and 200 Backstroke (1:53.86). He also swam a leg on his team's winning 400 Free Relay (3:10.89) and placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.65).

Diana Betsworth, Truman State
East Moline, IL

This weekend at the Bulldog Invitational, Betsworth won the 500 Free (4:58.41) breaking the pool record and recording an NCAA National A standard in one of the closest races of the meet. Betsworth also won the 200 Free (1:53.34) in NCAA A standard time. In addition, she won the 400 IM (4:36.18), 100 Free (53.33) and contributed to the winning 200, 400, and 800 Freestyle Relays at the meet.

Matt Fedderly, Johns Hopkins
Baltimore, Maryland

Fedderly was one of few double winners at the Carnegie Mellon Invite. Fedderly won the 100 (59.43) and 200 breaststroke (2:09.42). While also finishing to second place in the 200 IM (1:57.63) by only 3 hundredths of a second. Also Fedderly finished a solid fifth in the 400 IM (4:18.66).

Sarah Peck, Denison University
Palo Alto, CA

Peck had key performances that led to a 110-95 victory over 20-time National Champion Kenyon College. Peck got the Big Red started on the right foot in the anchoring the 200 medley relay with a split of 24.21 outtouch Kenyon by 0.09 seconds. Peck did not stop there, she won the 50 (24.75) and 100 free (53.38). She won the 50 by 0.70 and 100 free by almost a second and half.
