.: Stanford's Quick to Enter Texas HOF
Austin, TX , June 22nd, 2004
Quick, who has been the head coach at Stanford for the past 16 seasons, has won more NCAA titles (12) than any other coach in the history of Division I women's collegiate swimming. He has also added 19 conference championships in 28 years as a collegiate swimming head coach. Quick's first five NCAA titles came as the head coach of Texas when he led the Longhorns to a then-unprecedented five straight national crowns from 1984-88, a string he extended to six in a row during his first season with the Cardinal. Stanford also won five straight NCAA titles from 1992-96, as well as its eighth NCAA title under Quick in 1998. To put things in perspective, Richard Quick coached squads have captured 12 of the last 21 NCAA titles. He has also been named NCAA Coach of the Year and a Conference Coach of the Year on five occasions each during a marvelous coaching career.
Other highlights during his collegiate coaching career have included 13 consecutive Pac-10 titles (1989-2001) in his first 13 seasons at Stanford and a 57-match dual win streak to begin his Cardinal career.
He has an overall dual meet record of 205-38 (.844) and a 173-29 (.856) mark as a women's head coach.
Quick is also arguably the top women's swimming coach in the world with three stints as the head coach for the U.S. Women's Swimming team at the Olympics and as a five-time member of the U.S. coaching staff at the Olympic Games.
