Owens Named Head at MSU-Mankato

Mankato, MN , July 19th, 2004
Nathan Owens has been named head coach of the men’s and women’s swim programs at Minnesota State-Mankato.

Owens spent the last two years as a graduate assistant and assistant coach at Texas Christian University, a NCAA Division I program in Ft. Worth Tex. Prior to that he was the head swimming coach at St. Norbert College in DePere, Wis., for two years after gaining experience as a head coach at the high school and club level. A four-year swimming letterwinner at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Owens was a member of two conference championship teams while with the Pointers. A graduate of UWSP, Owens is completing a master’s degree from Texas Christian.

"We are very happy to have Nathan Owens joining us on our staff as the new head men's and women's swimming and diving coach,” said Kevin Buisman, MSU Director of Athletics. “His credentials, background, and experience seem to be a very good match to our current situation. We look forward to the progress our program will make behind Nathan's leadership."

That 'current situation' includes maintaining the momentum of alumni who stepped to the plate to save the program in May.
