FINA approved list

Postby dman70 on Tue May 19, 2009 10:21 am

FINA published their approved suit list: http://www.fina.org/project/index.php?o ... 9&Itemid=9

I noticed a certain very popular, wetsuit-like suit does NOT appear on the list.

It could just be one of the 136 suits that need new approval in 30 days. Might be hard to get that together by June 19th though. Sucks for the flo, but it especially sucks for Rowdy! He just signed a deal with them at Master's Nationals. Probably pittance anyways.

Eh that's nothing, Aaron P. just inked a deal with Arena and was planning to suit up in the X-Glide.

Well, I'm sure they've been working on a new suit design that will pass, but it will be just that: a new suit design. Everyone who currently owns a blue seventy might as well start using it to dry their car after a wash :)

FIrst off - I am so angry that FINA/Speedo took B70 out of the game. Forget the World champs, etc - it was really the only affordable option for younger athletes - Jr Nats, etc. I guess swimming has come far enough as a sport that we can now be bought. It is so short-sighted to bow to Speedo by throwing B70 out of the game. Who says B70 could not have become the next Speedo.

Anyway - since the X Glide was never approved in the first place, will the 100 free and 200 back records hold up"

Also - what's with the Jaked? the website lists the J01 for sale, but the J03 is the one on the approved list.

It is an interesting list for sure.

The real question is why suits like the B70 aren't there, when other suits that are extremely similar (if not the same with different stitching) are. The Rocket Science Sport suit is made from the same fabric as the B70 and Titan (who knows what those TYR designations mean); and there are Yamamoto suits listed (and they make the SCS fabric) as being approved.

Who would have thunk it... The only high tech suit to get approved is the speedo lzr... and none of the suits which last for an upwards of 50 swims are on the list. Swimmers everywhere just got screwed bigtime. Did they actually publish the test results or just some list with nothing to back it up?

Not sure if they changed it, but when they came out, the Rocket Science suit came with a 1 year warranty. Also - the Speedo LZR Racer Pro is listed. Is that different that than the LZR that we have been wearing? I cant see the LZR listed as a LZR Pro anywhere?

Also - there will be a totally new - probably abridged - second list coming out after the FINA Congress in July - which will take affect Jan 1. So it is perfectly possible for someone to go out and buy an approved suit just to find it non-approved Jan 1.

TYR has responded that the three suits approved are the Tracer Rise, the Tracer Light and a suit in development.

We need a list of un-approved suits - suits that got the axe.

The J01 is the suit that Fred wore for the 20.9 swim, while I believe the J03 was the (comparitivly) under-performing suit from the Olympics...

Has B70 responded? Is there any possible response?

It seems more than a slight coincidence, particularly given the Diana situation from pre-LZR 2008, that conspicuous absences of the Titan and B70 just happen to be from the two big manufacturers that another certain company might not want competition from...

swimmingworld is reporting that FINA states that 202 suits were approved yet only include 199 suits on the list. any chance the b70 is among the suits that weren't listed? if not, i agree that they got pretty boned. one of the best arguments made for the b70 (and suits like it, i suppose) is precisely what chris said: the ability to wear them many times over. now swimmers will be forced to buy a new tech suit for every big meet, just like before.
